Hidden Compartments In A Car
Many people who try to enter countries illegally are
building secret spaces inside their cars. In March 2016, Spanish police
discovered two men hidden in compartments under a car. To rescue them, police
had to remove the car's bumper. Sadly, one of the men didn't survive.
Police think he may have passed away because of bad air in
the compartment, not eating, not drinking enough, getting too hot, or a mix of
these.
Caught With An X-ray Scanner
More people are being transported into the country using
trucks with fake sides, tops, and bottoms. This method is also used to
transport substances illegally. Other officials inspected one such truck and
used an X-ray scanner. They found seven people hidden inside along with a large
amount of stuff.
Non-Factory Floor
In October 2010, the US Customs and Border Protection Agency
captured a Colorado man. He was caught trying to transport two illegal aliens
in his Chevy Trailblazer. When the man was stopped, officials searched his
truck and discovered a 31-year-old male and a 19-year-old female, both from
Mexico. The vehicle had a specific sheet metal compartment between the floor
and the undercarriage.
Human Cargo Stow Away Compartments
In March 2009, police found two immigrants hiding in the
false bottom of a car they were using to get into Melia in North Africa, part
of Spain. They were caught during Operation Ghoul, a plan to stop human
transport in the city. By the end of the operation, police had arrested 211
people.
Hidden Under the Hood
In May 2012, immigration officers stopped a car in Murray
because the driver and passenger seemed nervous. They had just come from
Greece. When officers looked under the car hood, they found a man squeezed
between the engine and the car's front grille. He was barely awake when they
took him out. Officials said the conditions were very bad. He had a blanket and
a cushion to try to be more comfortable, and he had a bottle of water. It was a
very riskiest way to try to enter a country illegally.
Disguised as Marines
In March 2011, a group of men dressed in US Marine uniforms
and driving a car with a US government license plate raised suspicion at a US
border patrol checkpoint near San Diego. They were asking too many questions,
which made officials wary. All the men had military-style haircuts and name
tags that said Perez. Eventually, authorities arrested 13 immigrants.
Hidden in the Dashboard
This is one of the riskiest ways to sneak yourself into
another country. In this photo, a woman removed most of the parts under the
car's dashboard and squeezed herself inside. She only had a bottle of water
with her to stay hydrated during the journey. If the car had crashed into
another vehicle, it could have been fatal. Some people will do anything to
illegally enter a country.
Even in the seats.
This man was so desperate to enter a country illegally that
he turned himself into a seat. He tore out the inside of the seat and climbed
inside, becoming part of it. It was a clever way to sneak into the country, but
border agents caught him.
Three Aliens Locked in a Trunk
In July 2015, U.S. Border Patrol agents in Pine Valley,
California stopped a car driven by U.S. citizens. They found three illegal
immigrants locked in the trunk. When a canine unit sniffed the car, they
alerted agents to something suspicious. Inside, they found two women and one
man sweating because it was hot and there was little air. The car was taken,
and everyone inside was arrested.
Speaker Box Hiding Spot At Otaimea Support, U.S. Customs and Border
Protection Officers caught a man trying to sneak another man
across the border. The man was hiding inside a speaker box in the car's trunk. The
driver, a U.S. citizen, was arrested immediately, and the man from Mexico
inside the speaker box was held as a witness.
