1- Brain-Eating
Amoebas
That brain-eating amoebas exist at all, and are pretty commonly
found in freshwater ponds and lakes. Apparently only four
people have survived getting it in the last 50 years.
2- Tapeworms
Tapeworms can grow up to 32 feet inside of you and they
eat half of what you eat. Tapeworms eat everything their animal
or human hosts eat. Since they reside in their hosts' intestines,
they have no choice but to conform to their diet. These parasitic worms feed on
partially digested food in the intestines.
3- Fatal Familial
Insomnia
Fatal familial insomnia exists. It’s a rare, incurable prionic brain disease that
progressively destroys your brain’s ability to sleep. Eventually you stop
sleeping altogether, go insane, have seizures, and die.
4- Dolphins
Dolphins in captivity usually commit suicide by suffocating
themselves. Prolonged confinement in such small quarters can lead to
depression and self-harming behaviors. Numerous documented examples of such
behavior have been observed in both dolphins and orcas, such as repeated
smashing of heads against tank walls or gnawing on walls and gates.
5- Delta P
Scuba divers can experience a sudden change in pressure when
swimming near pipes and will get sucked inside, doesn’t matter the size of the hole. It’s
called Delta P (aka differential
pressure).
Worst part? Someone else usually has to go inside the pipe
to remove the body.
6- Cockroaches &
Coffee
People who handle cockroaches develop allergies to them. This
usually prevents them from drinking pre-ground coffee because of the cockroaches
that get grounded in with the large
batches.
7- 52 Blue
There is a whale called 52 Blue that only sings
at that frequency, meaning it can’t communicate with other whales. It is
nicknamed "the loneliest whale in the world."
8- Octopus Moms
Deep sea octopus babies take [over four] years to hatch, while mama octopus
never leaves the “nest” to feed and dies when the babies hatch. She
doesn’t eat for years!
9- Old Whales
Whales don’t [succumb to] old age. Eventually they just don’t
have the strength to resurface and
slowly drown. When whales die in the ocean,
their bodies eventually sink to the bottom.
10- Female Tarantula
Hawk Wasp
The female tarantula hawk wasp stings a
tarantula between the legs, paralyzes it, then drags the prey to a specially
prepared burrow, where a single egg is laid on the spider's abdomen,
and the entrance is covered.
After several weeks, the larva pupates. Finally, the wasp
becomes an adult and emerges from the spider's abdomen to continue the life
cycle.
11- Sea Turtles
Watching a baby turtle (known as a
"hatchling") struggle out of the nest and make its way to the water
is an emotional experience but did you know Only one in every 1,000 sea turtles born ever
make[s] it to adulthood.
12- Squirrels and
Horses
Squirrels will eat baby birds, and horses will eat baby chicks, if given the chance.
13- Seagulls
Seagulls are also known to eat baby
seals' eyeballs.Hungry seagulls on the coast of Namibia have a
gruesome way of snacking: they peck out and consume the eyeballs of baby seals,
according to a new study.
14- Ducks
Female ducks [are forced to copulate] so frequently that they
have an [evolved] vagina that they can
offer to intruders so they don't get pregnant by the duck they don't want to get pregnant by.
15- Sunburns
When your skin becomes red from spending too much time under the
sunlight, it’s basically because your skin cells are committing suicide to avoid becoming
cancerous.
